The History of our Firm
The firm Elliott & Hughes was formed in 1992 by Glenn Elliott and Jayne E. Hughes. In 2008, Ms Hughes was appointed a Justice of the Superior Court of Justice and asked a local family, wills and estates lawyer, Sophie Hills, to assume her practice. Thereafter, Glenn and Sophie continued practising in association as Elliott & Hills. In 2012, Sophie was joined in her practice by Helen Nolan. In 2019 Helen joined Sophie as a managing lawyer and the firm was renamed Hills Nolan. In 2023, Aruna Persaud joined the firm as a managing lawyer, and the firm was renamed Nolan Persaud.
Durham Region Law Firm | Oshawa Family Lawyers
At Nolan Persaud, we focus on the forest and the trees — the big picture as well as the small details. We are results-oriented lawyers who never lose sight of the overall goal. We manage legal complexity and provide personal service and support to our clients at every step in the process.
When you are facing a potentially contentious and emotionally charged legal issue like a separation or divorce, you need a lawyer you feel comfortable with — someone you can trust to look out for your best interests. We begin building a constructive working relationship at the initial consultation. We will put you at ease by listening to your concerns. We’ll explain how we can help in plain English, not legalese. We will give you an overview of the legal situation and our opinion regarding the likely outcome of the issue. We will explain the different options for moving forward, including mediation, negotiation, collaborative family law or, as a last resort, litigation. You will leave with a clear sense of what decisions you need to make and the information you need to make them.
Throughout the process, you will be kept informed of developments in your case. Your calls and e-mails will be returned promptly. Our clients appreciate that we are warm, friendly and accessible as well as skilled and straightforward in our approach.
We have developed a reputation for providing efficient, fair and cost-effective legal services. We help our clients avoid or resolve problems in the most professional and effective way possible. Whenever possible, we encourage the resolution of disputes outside of court to avoid the emotional and financial costs of litigation. We limit the number of cases we accept so that we can give each client and each case the personal attention they deserve. Our office is located in Oshawa, Ontario, across from the Oshawa Centre’s main entrance. The office offers free parking and is accessible to people with disabilities. To arrange a consultation, please contact Nolan Persaud by e-mail or call 1 (905) 571-1774. We represent clients from throughout Durham Region and the Greater Toronto Area.
